Since the arrival of Luca de Meo, Renault has capitalized on its past. This is particularly the case for its electric novelties such as the future R5, which takes the look and name of an icon from the 1970s. To continue this momentum, the diamond brand is launching a unique virtual museum.
Very complete visual and sound archives
Baptized The Originals, this initiative is reminiscent of Citroën’s virtual museum, called Citroën Origins. At Renault, we find 21 legendary models of the brand ranging from the Type A of 1898 to the Formula 1 R26-03 of Fernando Alonso in 2006, through the Juvaquatre, Espace and other R12 Gordini. The range is wide, and includes popular small cars like the 4CV, Twingo and 4L but also utilities like the Estafette, or coupes like the R17 and Fuego.
For each model, detailed archives and explanatory texts on the career of the vehicle, its reception by the public or its specificities. You just have to scroll to go on, which leads in particular to a 3D view and a menu offering a small sound experience. Close your eyes, get comfortable in your chair and press the button to hear the engine start. We believe it! The sounds of the horn, turn signals and doors are also part of the game.
80 models expected by the end of 2022
The brand announces that the experience is very immersive thanks to recordings in a specific studio and to photogrammetry (3D modeling from a scan and a series of photos). The number of vehicles is expected to increase over time, with the addition of 50 models by the end of January 2022, reaching 80 models on virtual display by the end of December 2022.
