Lexus unveils a major plan for the electrification of its range for the coming years, in particular with the RZ SUV from 2022.
On December 14, Lexus and Toyota unveiled their electrification plan by 2035. A major strategy, which led the two manufacturers to present 15 concepts at the same event : the Toyota bZ range made up of a sedan, several crossovers and a 7-seater SUV, as well as electric concepts for Lexus. Among the models presented, the new electric SUV RX.
Platform shared with the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra
The future Lexus RX, whose manufacturer unveiled a teaser in early December, is a compact SUV derived from the LF-Z concept presented in March 2021. For the first time, it is based on the new e-TNGA platform, shared with Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra. The body is also reminiscent of the two models presented recently. The exterior is distinguished by a very vertical and fully painted closed grille, while a black element placed under the headlights is an extension of the optics and serves as an air inlet. At the back, a thin light strip is placed on the top of the trunk and marked with the Lexus logo in full.
For the moment, Lexus remains quite discreet about its RX. The model is scheduled for 2022, and should therefore be officially presented at a specific event. Thus, the interior is currently hidden, but could mix the usual Lexus architecture with the novelties appeared on the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra including the Yoke steering wheel. The mechanics are also secret. Corn we imagine that Lexus will take over that of the Toyota bZ4X by offering a little more power. As a reminder, the Toyota offers two variants of 204 and 218 hp, with a 71.4 kWh battery offering 460 to 530 km of range.
