Mercedes is preparing to add a new model to its electric EQ range, with the EQE SUV. The model was crossed in test in extreme climatic conditions.
Next year, Mercedes will add an additional version of the new EQE to its catalog, under an SUV body. The future model, which fits between the EQC and the next EQS SUV, should logically be called EQE SUV. It is already in preparation, since photographers were able to meet it in Sweden during winter tests.
An EQE sedan transformed into an SUV
Still well covered, the prototype reveals little in terms of style. But it should unsurprisingly take up the design of recent EQs, and in particular the EQE sedan, with a large closed black lacquered grille framed by LED headlights. The size of the vehicle seems rather imposing, like the sedan which measures 4.95 m (including 3.12 m of wheelbase). The SUV adopts short overhangs and a long wheelbase to save space on board.
On the profile, we notice retractable door handles while the model is equipped with large rims. The roof slopes gently towards the tailgate, which is also rather rounded. At the rear, the prototype is partly snow-covered but it should also keep the codes of electric Mercedes with a large luminous band above the Star logo. The interior should be similar to that of the EQE sedan, in particular with a floating center console and a dashboard incorporating the new MBUX Hyperscreen system.
An AMG version?
On the engine side, the EQE SUV will take over the range of the electric sedan of the same name. Thereby, a 292 hp rear-wheel drive version will be launched, with 530 Nm of torque and a 90 kWh battery offering up to 660 km of range on the sedan. The SUV, with its larger build, should offer a little less range. More powerful 4 × 4 versions and an AMG variant with more than 500 hp could join the range a little later.
