What future for Charles Leclerc? Seventh in the Formula 1 world championship this season, the Monegasque driver is under contract with Ferrari until 2024.
However the link between the Scuderia and Leclerc is not “armored” according to The Gazzetta dello Sport. “His contract would include a release clause if Ferrari does not finish third in the constructor championship next year” explains the Milan sports daily.
A clause that could play a significant role if Lewis Hamilton chooses to leave Mercedes (and Formula 1) at the end of the 2022 season.
The newspaper nevertheless points out that Charles Leclerc intends to stay at Ferrari, where he cultivates a good deal with his teammate Carlos Sainz and Scuderia boss Mattia Binotto.
The rumor of a return of Jean Todt as “super-consultant” for Ferrari could also reshuffle the cards. Especially since the manager of Charles Leclerc is none other than Nicolas Todt, the son of the president of the International Automobile Federation.
