SpaceX, the company of Elon Musk, plans to finance a space mission in dogecoins, a cryptocurrency whose price has suddenly soared. In partnership with Geometric Energy Corporation, the objective is to send a satellite to collect information on the Moon; its launch, ensured by the Falcon 9, is scheduled for the second quarter of 2022.

After Tesla who accepts Bitcoin payments, Elon Musk go to speed superior. His company SpaceX will launch in 2022 a satellite intended to collect information on the Moon fully funded in dogecoin, a cryptomonnaie which has been unleashing passions since the beginning of the year. Mission “Doge-1” is scheduled for 1is quarter 2022. It will be carried out in partnership with the Canadian company Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC), which paid for the launch of its satellite entirely in dogecoin. This is obviously the first space mission funded by cryptocurrency. Note that the amount of the transaction has not been communicated.

Dogecoin is an atypical cryptocurrency. Launched like a gag in 2013, it is directly inspired by a “meme” representing a dog of shiba breed, diverted for years on the Internet. In anonymity for years, its price suddenly soared in early 2021. For a few days, the dogecoin (Doge), hitherto confidential, posted a profitability record with, in particular, the unexpected support ofElon Musk, incidentally the second richest man in the world. Other stars, like Snoop Dogg, have also become addicted to it. Note that, on the general public side, this cryptomonnaie is now accepted as a payment method on Pornhub.

One more satellite orbiting the Moon!

The idea of the “Doge-1” mission is to set up a satellite on orbit around the Moon. It will be launched by a rocket Falcon 9. The satellite will be cubic in shape, will weigh about 40 kg and will embark many sensors and cameras. Its objective will be to collect as much information as possible on the Moon, without further details for the moment.

For SpaceX, this unprecedented dogecoin payment also lays the foundations for a future interplanetary trade that Elon Musk and his teams are already dreaming of. For them, the cryptomonnaies certainly represent a means of payment like any other. For years, Elon Musk has dreamed of sending humans to Mars. Perhaps he will then have to empty his cryptocurrency wallet to hope to be able to afford the trip.
