Inspired by Alonso
At the end of the 2018 season, double world champion Fernando Alonso decided to take a break from his career as a Formula 1 driver. His single-seater did not satisfy him, he fought with his McLaren to score points. He tests different championships during this break. He took part in the Indianapolis 500, he raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans where he won twice. This scenario was a source of inspiration for Ricciardo.
“I remember having a conversation with Fernando, it must have been two years ago. I wasn’t considering taking a break. But we were talking, I think we were on the plane somewhere, and he said the break had been one of the best things he had ever done. I told myself that if I ever felt the need for it, I should not be too afraid of it. And the year that he knowing has filled me with confidence. I felt a bit like, especially last year, that I was at an impasse. It was really hard to get out of it. That’s why this break, then finding a new team and a new environment, that was probably the best for me.”
After many months of thinking about his future and his plans, the Australian driver has taken a step back from his career. He admits to having been inspired by Fernando Alonso during his break at the end of the 2018 season.
