Last March, Mercedes offered its two entry-level SUVs GLA and GLB an update, rather light we can say. A few months later, it was the turn of the EQA and EQB electric versions to be restyled, in an equally sober way.
On the outside, you will indeed need a well-trained eye to distinguish the new grille with small stars (like most modern Mercedes) of the two models. The solid grille loses its chrome surround for a simple lacquered black mask, like the other vehicles in the EQ electric range. The headlights are still connected by a thin light strip above the grille. The shields are not even retouched, unlike the interior of the taillights which embeds new light signatures. Mercedes announces that four new models of rims from 18 to 20 inches and two body colors will complete the catalog. Finally, on EQAs equipped with the AMG Line finish, the wheel arches are now painted in body color.
Few changes on board

On board, there are barely more changes. A new six-spoke steering wheel appears depending on the version, with touch controls for managing the display of the counters and the multimedia system. These are projected on two adjoining panels, that of the central screen now being 10.25 inches as standard on the EQA and EQB. Mercedes specifies that the latest version of MBUX integrates the two SUVs, which makes it possible to offer improved driving assistance (including a new 360-degree camera), more advanced voice control and new displays. As in the most recent Mercedes, the touchpad present on the central console disappears, leaving a small hole near the armrest to deposit personal effects there.
Minor technical improvements

Mercedes takes advantage of the update to review the technical part. A few aerodynamic improvements and new low-rolling resistance tires improve efficiency and range, which climbs to 536 km on the EQB and 560 km on the EQA. A range monitoring system can recommend a maximum speed at which the driver could avoid stopping at a charging station, or using the Eco+ mode of the air conditioning. Finally, Mercedes explains that it has reworked its Plug & Charge system, which allows you to connect your vehicle to a terminal without having to pass a subscription card to authenticate.
On the other hand, the EQA and the EQB keep their engines (140, 168 or 215 kW) and their battery capacities before restyling (66.5 or 70.5 kWh). They retain their charging power of up to 100 kW in direct current (DC) and 11 kW in alternating current. Mercedes specifies that the EQB, available in 5 or 7 places, embarks for the first time an optional coupling on the variant with 5 seats. It can tow up to 1,400 kg on the entry-level version or 1,700 kg on variants equipped with 4Matic all-wheel drive.
