The news has just fallen, Haas F1 Team has just renewed its driver duo composed of Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg. The team is playing it safe for next year by retaining two veterans of the discipline. The two men will defend the colors of the American team once again for the 2024 season. Since its arrival in the premier category of motorsport, Haas has changed very little in its line-up of drivers. She has always preferred experienced pilots to rookies. Magnussen is a pillar of the team, having arrived at Haas in 2017, he knows the inner workings of the team perfectly. As for Hulkenberg, he made his return to the deep end after several seasons as a substitute at Aston Martin. For the moment, no information has been transmitted on the length of the contracts. Team principal Gunther Steiner spoke about the renewal of the contract of its pilots.
“I think it’s safe to say that we have an extremely strong driver line-up this season in F1, and ultimately there was no reason to think about changing that for the future. Kevin is obviously a particularly safe bet for us, and I’m delighted he’s staying on for what will be his seventh season with Haas. With 113 starts for our team, we know what his strengths are, which his knowledge and experience complement very well.
On the other side of the garage, Nico simply fitted in quietly, and proved to be a valuable member of the team. He is approaching 200 starts in Formula 1, and we are very happy to be the beneficiaries of his experience behind the wheel. We had to address our issues this season with VF-23, we make no bones about it, but we were extremely lucky to have two pilots with invaluable feedback to contribute to our engineering goals.
Kevin and Nico were welded from the start and both scored points. Nico in particular excelled in qualifying: he reached Q3 six times. Both are clearly enjoying F1, have their heads on their shoulders and basically understand what we are asking of them. It is now up to us to look to 2024 and ensure that we have a car capable of scoring points consistently.”
Pilots relieved
Renewing his contract during the season is always good news for drivers. Kevin Magnussen is happy to continue the adventure with Haas.
“I am obviously very happy to see my relationship with Haas F1 Team extended again. My comeback in 2022 was unexpected but had a lot of highlights, and although this season didn’t quite go as we hoped, we still managed to get into the points and show the potential of our package.
There are still many races to be contested in 2023 and we have a lot of work to do to continue to better understand the VF-23 – learning that can be applied to the 2024 car. My thanks as always go to Gene Haas and Günther Steiner , which give me the opportunity to continue racing in the sport that I love.”
Nico Hulkenberg shares the same feeling, the German driver will be able to concentrate 100% on the development of the car for next year.
“It’s good to finalize everything early for next season in order to give priority to competition and improve performance. I enjoy being part of the team, and I share Gene and Günther’s passion for We’re in a very tight mid-table, and I’m looking forward to building on what we’ve done together so far, building on that for 2024.”
