Zapping Sports Auto Moto 2023 F1 Season Calendar
One day before the resumption of Formula 1 in Zandvoort, the drivers and teams are on the starting blocks. But for the Scuderia, the Italian team will have to go into overdrive for the second half of the season. Team principal Fred Vasseur briefed the press on Ferrari’s goals. The prancing horse team has to straighten the bar and come back to its main competitors, Aston Martin and Mercedes. The Scuderia are five points behind the stable of Lawrence Stroll and 56 units on the silver arrows. Since the start of the season, Ferrari has achieved meager results. In 12 Grand Prix, the Italian team has been on the podium three times. This is clearly not enough compared to his opponents. Mercedes and Aston Martin regularly score big points which allows them to rank quite high in the constructors’ championship.
Fred Vasseur’s statement
At the start of the Dutch Grand Prix, Fred Vasseur clearly defined Ferrari’s objectives.
“There is a huge gap with Mercedes in terms of points, but also when I look at the first half of the season we missed too many opportunities. We have to be much more opportunistic in the second half of the season. We need something a bit special if we want to catch Mercedes [au championnat], but the most important thing for me is to catch up with Mercedes in terms of pace. I’m more convinced that we need to improve everywhere and not just in one area. We talk about tenths, not seconds, and we show on some occasions that we are capable of fighting with Red Bull, at least in qualifying. This means that the car’s potential is there and we have to understand why we are a little less efficient in the race and try to improve in these conditions. But I’m not sure if it comes from the concept of the car.
