The second generation of the Kona is finally available in electric. The base price now exceeds €40,000, including the small battery.
Launched in the spring with the simple hybrid engine, the second generation of the Kona is finally offered with its “Electric” variant. Like the previous version, there is always a choice between two technical configurations.
The starting version now announces 156 hp (against 136 hp before) and its battery has a capacity of 48.4 kWh, against 39.2 kWh previously. Autonomy in the combined cycle thus increases from 305 to 377 km.
Above, we have a 217 hp engine (instead of 204 hp) with a 65.4 kWh battery, compared to 64 kWh on the old model. Good point: while the maximum range was 484 km before, now it’s 514 km. Attention however, it is with the rims of 17 inches. In 19 inches, that drops to 454 km, downright 60 km lost with looks!

The costs
The entry ticket climbs several thousand euros. It was €37,100, now it’s €40,850! How to justify it? Already, as we saw at the beginning of this text, the battery of the basic model is bigger, and we have more autonomy. In addition, the vehicle as a whole is more imposing, increasing from 4.20 to 4.35 meters in length. It is thus more family-friendly, moving away from urban models and approaching compact models. This can be seen in the trunk, which goes from 332 to 466 litres. Finally, the equipment is more generous. Basic, there is now in series the adaptive cruise control, the front parking assistance or the navigation. Another notable gain right from the start: the 11 kW three-phase on-board charger.
The big battery version costs at least €44,250, compared to €41,900 before. There too, a little more autonomy, equipment and an increased size.
