Kia has just unveiled a new electric family SUV in China, the EV5. It could arrive here in 2024.
Kia is continuing to develop its “EV” range. After 6 and 9, place at 5. Behind this number, there is again an SUV. If Kia does not say so today, the brand not giving any technical information for the moment, information from China had revealed a length of 4.61 meters. The model therefore exceeds our Sportage a little (4.51 meters long) and displays a size similar to the Volkswagen ID.4.
The EV5 resembles the EV9, resuming its silhouette that is both angular and smooth. The newcomer can be recognized by its original look, with a light signature that follows the bonnet, then dives into the shield, where the optics form a triangle. At the rear, the lights join the logo on the wide tailgate.
In the cabin, we find again the influence of the EV9, with two side-by-side screens, without a cap. Surprisingly, the passenger seat extends over the central tunnel! But the front is well reserved for two people. The EV5 promises great roominess. We can see on an image that once folded down, the bench forms a flat floor.
As said before, we don’t know anything about the technical sheet yet, Kia giving an appointment for a next “EV Day”, a conference dedicated to its electrics, to go into details. We imagine that the technical basis is e-GMP, as for the other EVs.
The EV5 was introduced at the Chengdu Motor Show, China. This market is also its priority, it will first be launched there. Kia says it will then be offered elsewhere in the world, without saying where. Our English colleagues from Autocar argue that Europe is on the way to recovering it.
