The Toyota steamroller, number one and regular champion of the automobile, can therefore be stopped. By what ? A “simple” computer failure, obviously. It is indeed for this reason that the company suspended production in its 14 Japanese factories on Tuesday, August 29. This impacts no less than 28 production lines.
In detail, the group, which has already expressed itself on this subject, explained that this failure concerned its computer system. The latter was prevented from processing parts orders. What quickly cause shortages in the Japanese automotive giant.
Thus, the company first stopped, Tuesday morning, 12 of its factories, or 25 production lines. Toyota then decided to shut down all factories and 28 production lines in total. A spokeswoman for the company dismissed the idea of a cyberattack, to AFP in the morning, when only 12 factories were impacted:
“Twelve automotive factories, involving 25 production lines, are unable to order parts due to a system failure.” “At this time, we do not believe this to be a cyberattack.”
Toyota has already suspended production due to a cyberattack
An important precision, because the leaders of Toyota have already been forced to suspend the production of the company because of a cyberattack. This had happened last year, during a day. One of the giant’s suppliers, Kojima Industries, was hit by this attack.
Remember that Toyota’s global production is on the rise. The latter exceeded 5.6 million vehicles in the first six months of 2023. This is a new half-year record, according to figures published at the end of July. Its score is up 10.3% over one year.
