The Kia EV5 comes out at 20,000 euros in China
Officially unveiled a few days ago at the Chengdu Motor Show, the EV5 will be available from November 17 on the Chinese market. This electric equivalent of the Sportage displays a template similar to the ID.4 and looks a lot like the EV9. With this new grille, Kia gives an aggressive side to its new 100% electric model. The passenger compartment is perfectly optimized: the rear bench seat can fold completely flat to increase loading space.

According to the manufacturer, the interior of the EV5 is closer to a ” home living room than the interior of a traditional car “. A very important new criterion for young buyers according to Kia. The EV5 is positioned exactly in the Tesla Model Y segment. And the brand does not hide it: it wants to overshadow the American’s SUV. Kia wants to strike a blow and this will go through the extremely attractive price of its new electric model.
The black beast of the Tesla Model Y?
The price war raging in China on the electric segment is encouraging manufacturers to reduce their margins and offer cars at ever lower prices. Before knowing its official price, market observers expected to see the EV5 come out around 300,000 yuan (38,000 euros). It will ultimately be much cheaper than that. At 20,000 euros, the EV5 is likely to hurt the Model Y whose starting price is 263,900 yuan (33,000 euros).
The Kia EV5’s very low starting price should help it take its first steps into the world’s biggest car market. The South Korean manufacturer wants to be as competitive as possible to grab market share from BYD and Tesla. At startup, the EV5 will only be offered in one version in China: the one with an 82 kWh battery, a 214 hp electric motor and a torque of 310 Nm. A variant with greater autonomy should arrive in a second time.
