Zapping Sports Auto Moto 2023 F1 Season Calendar
After four years of collaboration, the Cannes driver has decided to put an end to it. During this first part of the season, Johann Zarco was in total limbo. His contract with Pramac Ducati expired at the end of this season. The transalpine brand has offered an additional year in MotoGP with the same team, then an extension with the SuperBike for 2025. But it seems that the Frenchman was not attracted by this project. The Pramac driver therefore decided to embark on a new adventure with the Japanese manufacturer Honda. A few weeks before the start of the premier class at Silverstone, its agents got in touch with the managers of the Japanese brand. They anticipated a departure from Zarco. Ducati boss Paolo Ciabatti has spoken out about his rider’s departure.
“The choices of the pilots depend on their objectives. We offered Johann the possibility of staying in MotoGP for one more year, to then move to Superbike in 2025 on a two-year contract, taking the place of Bautista who will decide to retire next year. His desire was instead to stay longer in MotoGP, so Honda’s offer of two plus one years makes sense. I don’t allow myself to judge his choice, but I can say that he is certainly courageous. I also think that, for a rider, staying tied to Ducati with a two-year Superbike contract and the objective of winning as many titles as possible was something very interesting, but I don’t allow myself to say something else.”
