Maserati announces the arrival of a discoverable variant of the MC20 supercar, with photos of a prototype camouflaged as cloudy skies.
Maserati is already preparing for the return of the sunny days with a new variant of its sporty MC20. This will be able to get rid of its roof.
Head in the clouds
After the MC20 coupe, Maserati is indeed adding an MC20 convertible to its range. The announcement is not a surprise, since the brand had confirmed from the presentation that there would be a convertible and a 100% electric variant. This time, the brand unveils a few pictures of the discoverable MC20, which receives for the occasion a new camouflage imitating a cloudy sky.
What to confuse the tracks, even if we can see a double boss on the retractable roof. This should be stiff and not flexible, while the mechanism should be quite close to that of a Ferrari F8 Spider. with several pieces of bodywork. The materials used will be identical to the coupe, with carbon fiber and composite materials.
Arrival expected in 2022, electric the following year
The Maserati MC20 discoverable will also use the engine seen on the coupe, a home-made Nettuno V6 with a displacement of 2.9 l, offering 630 hp. This one is able to climb from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.9 s on the closed version, and could therefore be slightly slower on the uncapped, heavier variant. Ditto for the top speed, displayed at 325 km / h on the MC20 coupe.
The MC20 convertible will be officially presented in the course of 2022, potentially before the summer. And if 2022 will be dedicated to walks with the hair in the wind, the following year will be one of silence and “zero exhaust emissions”. In 2023, Maserati will indeed present the electric MC20. This will reinforce the electrification ambitions of the brand, which has already unveiled Ghibli and Levante PHEVs.
