The United States Environmental Protection Agency (Environmental Protection Agencyor EPA) just certified the performance of the Rivian R1T. Good news for the Californian brand: its 100% electric pickup can officially travel 660 km.
660 km of autonomy for the Rivian R1T
This is great news for Rivian. The manufacturer already knew the capabilities of its model, but this certification gives it some legitimacy. The results of the EPA are even slightly better than the initial estimates made by the brand. The R1T Dual Motor therefore has a range of 660 km in its Max Pack configuration, with the largest battery.

Even with the 20-inch off-road wheels, the electric pickup will be able to travel 570 km. It is the first 100% electric vehicle from Rivian that offers such autonomy and it is almost a miracle for a vehicle of this size. The Max Pack battery is capable of carrying 180 kWh, against 135 kWh for the Large Pack battery.
The Dual-Motor and Performance Dual-Motor R1T have the best range in our lineup, with an EPA-estimated 410 miles with our Max pack and 352 miles with our Large pack — both when paired with 21″ wheels. Keep an eye out for full R1S range figures soon. pic.twitter.com/zVNg4jPHl0

How does the R1T stack up against the competition?
A certification that allows Rivian to enter the big leagues. In comparison, the Ford F-150 Lighting, a direct competitor to the R1T, can only travel ” what » 510 km in a configuration similar to that of the Rivian model. Ford’s pickup is only available in four-wheel drive and can carry a choice of 98 or 131 kWh battery.
The future Tesla Cybertruck, on the other hand, could be better placed. The pick-up which is about to be marketed will be offered in three completely different versions: a single-engine version with 400 km of autonomy, a Dual-Motor version with 484 km and another much sportier version with three engines and a 200 km battery. kWh promising more than 800 km.
Author’s opinion
The R1T is a model designed for adventure and the EPA certification allows Rivian to assume this positioning. With this stamp which formalizes the 660 km of autonomy of its pick-up, Rivian scores points. A well-deserved reward for a start-up which only manufactures electric models and which concentrates all its energy on the development of dedicated technologies. The Californian company is making its mark and I am convinced that its models will end up being popular in the years to come, like Tesla’s development. Maybe not the R1 range that was really designed for the North American market, but the R2 and R3 that are coming have a future in Europe.
