Zapping Auto Moto Restyled Peugeot 2008 vs Renault Captur: first static confrontation!
The countdown is over, the Munich Motor Show opened its doors to journalists from all over the world this Monday, September 4th. As expected, the German manufacturers in the first place could not afford to move there empty-handed. Also the novelties jostle for example on the Mercedes stand, to mention only the brand with the Star. In addition to the CLA Concept (see link below), the restyled EQA, EQB and Class V/EQV, it is taking advantage of this event to expand the range of its latest generation of its E-Class with an expected elevated station wagon version. Introducing the 2024 E-Class All-Terrain vintage.
Mercedes renews the experience
The all-wheel drive station wagons, the Stuttgart manufacturer will have much more time than its competitors before getting started. The first model to have succumbed to this trend was the previous version of the E-Class in 2017. Visibly satisfied with its results, he declined this formula with a recent and unprecedented C-Class All-Terrain and gave offspring to the first named.
For this second E-Class All-Terrain, Mercedes has taken up the fundamentals of the old one. Break bodywork therefore, but also 4MATIC all-wheel drive, single-chamber AIRMATIC air suspension, raised ground clearance (by 46 mm) and specific driving program allowing you to take on rough roads (but not too much!).
In terms of looks, it is also rather classic with, as expected for such a model, some elements inspired by the world of SUVs: special bumpers, front and rear underrun protections in shiny chrome and gray wheel arches. dark. Unfortunately, it loses one of the main assets of the previous generation with a shrinking trunk. On the thermal model, this still passes with 615 liters (against 640 liters previously). On the new plug-in hybrid model, on the other hand, the volume drops to 460 liters. A little tight to rob the antique dealers on the weekend…
Only diesel but…
Exactly, let’s come to the engines. It may seem against current trends, but this E-Class All-Terrain will only be offered at launch in the first quarter of 2024 with two diesels. Not sure that the first, the most modest (E 220 d 4MATIC with 4-cylinder 197 hp), meets with great success on our lands insofar as, despite its association with a 48V micro-hybridization, its CO2 emissions quite high (139 g / km minimum) and its weight that we imagine just as high (to be confirmed) mean that it should be subject to a double penalty. Despite a price that will logically be higher, the plug-in hybrid variant (E 300 of 4MATIC of 312 hp) could do well, especially with companies thanks to more advantageous taxation. In addition, thanks to a battery with a more than comfortable capacity of 19.5 kWh net, it can travel between 85 km and 102 km on a single charge in 100% electric mode. A very reasonable score.

To sum up
A Mercedes E-Class without its All-Terrain variant no longer exists. Also, a few months after the presentation of the latest generation, this specific version with an adventurous tendency made its appearance in the range.
