The Kangoo sees life on a large scale with an XXL version, which offers electric motorization. But its autonomy becomes too modest for a family vehicle.
Long a specialist in the genre, Renault has turned its back on the minivan. After the Espace, it’s the turn of the Scénic to join the world of SUVs, on the occasion of its transition to all-electric. It has become less practical. However, there remains in the Losange offer a really practical model for families: the Kangoo. Moreover, during its redesign, the MPV went upmarket precisely to compensate for the abandonment of the minivan formula.
And for large families, Renault drives the point home with a new Grand Kangoo. Already launched in utility version, this lengthened silhouette is now suitable for civilian use. And this maxi Kangoo is also available in 100% electric, as has been the case with the “short” model for a few months.
The spec sheet is the same. The block delivers 90 kW, or 120 hp, and a maximum torque of 245 Nm. It is associated with a 45 kWh battery (useful capacity). Too bad not to have taken advantage of the extension to slip in a larger battery, because the announced autonomy is only 265 km. If Renault points out that this is more than enough to cover daily journeys, it gets stuck for weekend family getaways or vacation departures. However, such a Kangoo is intended to be the first car in the household. We also imagine that a vehicle with 7 people on board and luggage will see its real autonomy melt.

The vehicle can accommodate a 22 kW AC three-phase on-board charger. It can also recharge with direct current, with a maximum power of 80 kW. The driver can gain autonomy with regenerative braking, which offers three levels. An Eco mode also limits the vehicle to 56 kW and 110 km/h. In addition, with the auto air conditioning, we have a heat pump.
With this silhouette, the Kangoo sees life very big. It can accommodate 7 people. Renault says 3rd row knee space is class leading. Access is facilitated by longer sliding doors of 18 cm (i.e. 83 cm). Even with 7 seats, the trunk retains a volume of 500 litres. The maximum capacity is 3750 liters. By folding the passenger seat, the loading length is 3.11 meters.
Orders will be opened at the end of the year, deliveries will begin at the beginning of 2024.
