According to a study by the Inrix Institute, Paris is the second most congested city in the world, just behind London and ahead of Brussels.
If you are used to traveling in Paris, you have most likely realized that this is a test of strength, as all the streets are now saturated. This is due to a very specific policy, with the closure of the bank lanes and the pedestrianization of many arteries, causing real chaos for vehicles attempting to circulate there. And rest assured, it is not just a view of the mind, but a reality, highlighted by a study of theInrix institute. By analyzing data from 1,000 cities around the world over ten months, specialists then realized that the City of Light was the second most congested. Just that.
Blame it on the Covid?
The capital is therefore located just behind London, which therefore won the prestigious title of most crowded city in the world, and ahead of Brussels, which comes in 3rd position. However, if Paris has gained four places in the ranking compared to last year, traffic jams have nevertheless slightly decreased, but less than in the other cities studied. What would explain the global increase in traffic jams, since 2020, is in part the epidemic of Covid-19, which encouraged Parisians to use public transport less, which experienced a drop in attendance of -42% in the first half of 2021.
In total, motorists crossing Paris by car lost no less than 140 hours in a single year in traffic jams. But the capital is not the only French city in the ranking, since Lyon has meanwhile moved from 34th to 12th place.
