Since the disappearance of the small and original i3, the BMW iX1, a 100% electric variant of the X1 SUV, has represented the first price zero-emission model of the Propeller brand. Only, offered from around €57,000, we cannot say that it was particularly attractive. For its part, the i3 started at around €40,000, quite a difference! But beware, with its two electric motors delivering a combined power of 313 hp and its battery with a net capacity of 64.8 kWh, the only iX1 available in the catalog since launch plays in a completely different court than the i3 d then (propulsion, 184 hp and 42.2 kWh battery). For all those who don’t need as much power, in particular, the iX1 range now includes a new variant (eDrive20) that is more reasonable but no less interesting, quite the contrary.
Features not ridiculous at all
It’s simple, it gets rid of its engine placed on the rear axle to become a simple traction, but the power of the front engine alone (204 hp) and the torque of 247 Nm are more than enough. If the maximum speed is electronically limited to 170 km/h, the 0 to 100 km/h can be expedited in 8.6 s. What fit easily on expressways and highways.
The best part about it is that it retains the top model’s battery at the convincing net capacity (but not outstanding either, see above). As a result, BMW is counting on a slightly higher range: up to 475 km in the combined cycle when the iX1 eDrive30 is content with 439 km at best.
Nothing changes either for the fast charging power, correct without more, incidentally with 130 kW peak allowing to recharge from 10% to 80% energy in 29 minutes. With its integrated charger (11 kW), it takes 6h30 for a full recharge. With the optional 22 kW three-phase alternating current on-board charger, the wait will be much shorter: 3h45.
Eligible for the ecological bonus
We saved the best for last. Thus rigged, the iX1 eDrive20 starts from €46,990, more than €10,000 less than the iX1 eDrive30 and just below the €47,000 mark, which allows it to benefit from the bonus of 5 €000 or €7,000. And this is not at the expense of the staffing, correct: auto air conditioning, GPS, rear view camera, 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and 10.7-inch touch screen, etc.
For comparison, this puts it in direct competition with the Volvo XC40 Recharge with relatively similar characteristics (a little more efficient and a little faster in charging) but with a coat of arms a bit less prestigious. It is also the price of a well-equipped and attractively presented 204 hp ID.3 Pro Performance, but less good on paper in terms of autonomy and here too less distinguished. The price war launched by Tesla and the Chinese manufacturers is good, right?
