Will the Dacia Spring soon be deprived of its ecological bonus? It is not we who are saying this, but the Minister for Energy Transition. Asked about TF1 this Tuesday as part of the 20 Hours, Agnès Pannier-Runacher returned to the future ecological bonus. She cited the Dacia Spring among the losing cars, with the future version of this measure:
“A car that is made in China with coal-based electricity will not be able to have this ecological bonus (…) Under current production conditions, models such as the Dacia Spring or the MG type should not benefit from the ecological bonus next year.”
The Dacia Spring, sold today from 15,800 euros and appreciated for its accessibility, could therefore see its price inflate by no less than 5,000 euros. Conversely, French and European models could well be favored in the future. Surprisingly, Tesla, which nevertheless manufactures most of its cars in China, could also keep its bonus, as the minister explained:
“The future R5, the Renault Scenic or in another register, the Fiat 500 or the 208 [pourraient profiter du futur bonus].” “You know that Tesla announces manufacturing in Europe. It will probably improve his environmental score.”
Putting justice back into the ecological bonus
The Minister justifies this decision to modify the ecological bonus by the need to “deliver justice” in this domain. This is to promote cars for which manufacturers make efforts from the production phase:
“Today, we have companies in France and in Europe that manufacture while reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. And, on the other side of the world, we manufacture with electricity that is coal with a environmental footprint which is very high.”
A reinforced ecological bonus
In addition to all these measures, the executive also intends to increase the amount of the ecological bonus. A reverse decision of the last few months, which would make it possible to reach more citizens and convert them to electric. Agnès Pannier-Runacher details:
“We are going to strengthen this ecological bonus to ensure that electric cars are more accessible to French people who have average incomes and who use their car a lot (…) [Nous allons] increase the amount of the ecological bonus.”
