Last November, Volvo opened orders for its new family electric SUV, the EX90. On the French market, the manufacturer had favored the top-of-the-range Ultra version, over-equipped, and the most powerful engines. The Volvo EX90 was in fact only offered as a twin-engine, all-wheel-drive variant, with either 408 hp or 517 hp. All this therefore caused the bill to explode, with an entry ticket set at €107,900!
Fortunately, Volvo is back on Earth this fall with the arrival of other finishes and engines. The SUV receives a new “Single” motorization with a single engine and rear-wheel drive architecture. This has 279 hp and 490 Nm of torque. It reaches 100 km/h in 8.4 s, compared to 5.9 s and 4.9 s for the Twin and Twin Performance variants above 400 hp. On the other hand, all engines are limited to 180 km/h. Still associated with an XXL 104 kWh battery, the “Single” version has a maximum range of 580 km (WLTP, approval pending). Recharging can be done in 11 kW in alternating current and up to 250 kW in direct current as on the other variants. It is also lighter with 2,637 kg in running order, against 2,796 to 2,811 kg for the other versions.
New finishes in the catalog
Volvo is also reviewing its range with the introduction of the Start and Plus finishes, which are more reasonable in terms of equipment and price. The Start finish starts at €89,500, and it is only offered with the new rear-wheel-drive version. It already features numerous driving assistance systems (intelligent collision anticipation system, adaptive cruise control with lane keeping and braking function, etc.) and comfort equipment (quad-zone automatic air conditioning, manual access and starting free, digital key, 14.5-inch central screen, etc.).
The Plus finish requires €5,600 more than the entry-level Start, with a price set at €95,100 for the rear-wheel-drive engine and €99,250 for the two-motor AWD variant. On the equipment side, it adds in particular elements of black lacquered exterior style, backlit interior inlays, stitching on the dashboard and door trims, a Bose Premium Sound audio system at 14 HP, a new head-up display and even electric adjustment. steering wheel and steering column.
Finally, Volvo includes in the catalog an option at no additional cost: the possibility of choosing between a six- or seven-seater version on the Ultra finish. In the six-seater version, the second row only offers two seats, wider and more welcoming.
Volvo EX90 price (September 2023):

Twin 408 ch | – | 99 250 | 105 200 |

To sum up
After launching its EX90 only at the top of the Ultra range above €100,000, Volvo is expanding its range from below with new entry-level finishes and engines, as well as a six-seater version. This brings down the price of the electric SUV.
