In recent days, fuel prices have inflamed the political sphere. This particularly concerned Xavier Bertrand, LR president of the Hauts-de-France region and Bruno le Maire, Minister of Economy and Finance. The first pushes for a rebate, when the second defends the fact of not setting it up.
The latter argued that this rebate would cost too much. But also that it would not stick with the ecological objectives of the government. Ecology has a good back… He spoke about it on BFM TV this Sunday, September 3:
“Xavier Bertrand’s proposal is not consistent with the budgetary commitments [de la France].” “His proposal costs 12 billion euros. Is this consistent with the end of whatever it costs to provide fuel aid?
“We cannot explain that global warming is accelerating (…) and that at the same time, we will continue to spend public money on fossil fuels.”
Bruno the Mayor is lying according to Xavier Bertrand
Words that did not fail to put Xavier Bertrand out of him. The latter replied to the Minister, on France Blue this September 5. He believes that this justification at 12 billion euros is a lie. No more no less :
“It’s nonsense, it’s a lie.” “It makes you wonder if those who govern us know how to count.” “Last year, the rebate had reached from the State 30 centimes.”
“I’m offering 15 cents. 30 cents, that had cost eight billion euros for the budget, and now I’m offering half as a rebate and it’s going to cost 50% more? But who is he kidding? If they do not want to do it, that they assume but that they do not tell us canards.
And to conclude that he will not let go of the subject, by proposing to return what the State earns thanks to taxes with the increase in prices for the French. It remains to be seen whether this proposal will be followed in the future, while fuel prices remain high.
