We were telling you about it yesterday, the Minister for Energy Transition Agnès Pannier-Runacher recently gave an interview to TF1 during which she spoke in particular about the changes in the ecological bonus in 2024 and its consequences. As a reminder, the new objective of the government is to reserve this boost for models produced on European territory by means of a scholarly calculation
In her interview, Agnès Pannier-Runacher gave two examples: a model that should be impacted by the new bonus, the Dacia Spring, as well as a brand, MG. The last named had little taste for the statements of the minister …
A union representing automotive brands reassembled
It was not MG Motor France that spoke strictly speaking, it was the International Automobile and Motorcycle Trade Union Chamber (CSIAM) which represents automotive brands and groups as diverse as BMW, Hyundai , Land Rover or even MG. In a press release shared today, Deputy President Athina Argyriou said she was surprised “by this intervention, even though the decree relating to the ecological bonus for 2024 has not yet been published and the administration has not yet collected all the data necessary to carry out the calculations (of a rare complexity, editor’s note) provided for by the future decree”. That’s right, a public consultation was held between July 28 and August 25. It is expected that the decree will be published at the beginning of September and then that it will be mentioned during the discussions around the 2024 finance bill. Nothing is therefore decided yet.
However, it is not excluded that, if the government does not obtain satisfaction, it again engages its responsibility and provides for a 49-3. This was declared in particular by the Minister Delegate in charge of Public Accounts Thomas Cazenave on September 2 on France Inter.
To return to the ecological bonus more specifically, the CSIAM sees in the new formula desired by the State “a discriminatory measure targeting certain brands” and says it brings “all its support to MG Motor”. Not specifically targeted by the Prime Minister but defended by the CSIAM, manufacturers such as General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mazda, Mitsubishi or Nissan should also be affected by this more restrictive bonus if it were to be adopted. We will not fail to know their reaction in due course.

To sum up
The interview with the Minister for Energy Transition at the beginning of the week on TF1 during which she listed a few brands and models that will no longer be able to benefit from the ecological bonus in 2024 was poorly received by one of the manufacturers in question…
