The “Renaulution” of the French car manufacturer continues with the official presentation of the new Renault Scenic. Like the Megane E-Tech, the new family vehicle from the diamond brand also adopts an electric motor. However, the new Scenic E-Tech Electric is no longer quite a Scenic as we have known it in its 27 years on the market.

One of the last survivors of the minivan era is replaced by a vehicle sporting the silhouette of an SUV. Nothing really surprising, minivans such as the old Scenic no longer have the wind in their sails with European customers. Like the future Renault Espace, the Renault Scenic therefore also becomes an SUV. If its style evolves in depth against the Scenic 4, the spirit is preserved. The car is versatile and ideal for families.
The new Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric is an SUV
Over its generations, the Scenic has evolved a lot. Its outdated styling from the first generation, derived from the 1995 Megane, has convinced over the years to reach a nicely styled version with the latest generation. However, the concept of the minivan no longer inspires the spirit of freedom of French or European families. They prefer the SUV that came straight from America. If the French and European manufacturers have tried to resist for a long time, all end up succumbing to the demand of their customers.
Its design takes up the new stylistic code of the brand’s latest creations such as the Megane E-Tech or the Renault Austral. The passenger compartment is generous with its flat floor. This is based on the CMF-EV platform. The wheelbase of 2.78 meters provides more space on board to travel comfortably both front and rear. Departures on vacation will be facilitated with its generous loading volume of 545 litres. If the shape of the body evolves, the spirit of the original compact MPV remains very present.
On board, users will benefit from the latest evolution of the on-board multimedia system, the OpenR Link. The latter is equipped with 50 new applications to optimize journeys according to battery charging needs, but also to take advantage of break times in a fun way. Renault will also offer an Esprit Alpine version bringing an extra touch of sportiness.
The first electric Scenic is coming soon on our roads
After having received under its hood the ranges of gasoline and diesel engines of the firm, therefore the now essential 1.5 dCi, the new Scenic also abandons its thermal engines. This new opus is a 100% electric SUV as its name suggests. It will be able to receive engines developing from 125 to 160 kW, the equivalent of a heat engine of 170 to 220 horsepower.
To offer it an autonomy worthy of interest, this new family vehicle will be able to receive an 87 kWh battery in compact format. This should allow it to obtain a WLTP autonomy in the combined cycle of 620 kilometers, more than enough for everyday life and to get away for a weekend. A smaller version will also be available with a capacity of 60 kWh offering a range of 420 kilometres. The load can reach 150 kW on a fast terminal or 22 kW on a public terminal.
The development, like the production, of this new Scenic E Tech Electric is also intended to be more respectful of the environment. Thus, Renault largely uses recycled materials to manufacture its new model, up to 40% for aluminum and up to 100% for textiles. In addition, the brand’s ElectriCity factories are aiming for carbon neutrality from 2025, in particular that of Douai where the vehicle will be produced. We will have to wait until 2024 to get behind the wheel of the new Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric.
