Zapping Sports Auto Moto 2023 F1 Season Calendar
After the (very) fast roads of Estonia and Finland, the WRC drivers will seriously lose momentum at the start of September. Indeed, the World Rally Championship is setting its wheels in Greece to compete in the famous Acropolis Rally, known for its particularly brittle profile. That said, this year, the torrential rains that followed an episode of severe drought could transform the profile of this event.
The Hellenic round marks the return to competition of Sébastien Ogier, absent in Estonia then in Finland. For the record, the Frenchman already has 3 wins in 5 rallies as part of his partial 2023 programme, in Monte-Carlo, Mexico and Kenya during his last appearance to date, while in the meantime he had finished respectively 5th and 14th in Croatia and Sardinia. Absent in Greece in 2022, the Gapençais has already won this rally, in 2011, at the wheel of the Citroën DS3 WRC.
Last season, the Acropolis Rally was the scene of a rout for the Toyota team, resulting in an unprecedented hat-trick for Hyundai, Thierry Neuville winning ahead of Ott Tänak and Dani Sordo. In 2021, victory went to Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota), on the occasion of the return of the event to the world calendar after 8 years of absence. The late Colin McRae holds the best track record on the Acropolis Rally with 5 victories (1996, 1998, 2000 to 2002). The 2023 edition offers a relatively condensed route, with 303.30 km timed divided into 15 specials. With the exception of SS1 on Thursday evening, broadcast on Canal+Sport 360, the 14 other specials, from Friday to Sunday, will be shown on Canal+Sport.
