Zapping Auto Moto Hyundai Ioniq 5 N: contact with the 650 hp electric battery!
In June, we announced that Citroën was changing its tune to take on the role of the “low-cost” brand (it’s a big word, rather say “essential” or “popular”) of the Stellantis group. A few days ago, the first elements of this new strategic vision took shape with a simplification of the range decided to facilitate the purchasing process but also reduce production costs and delivery times. A policy which, according to him, makes it possible to erase “the random nature of promotions”, all to bring “more clarity, fairness and competitive prices”. And yet, paradoxically, Citroën decided to communicate thereafter on limited series rather chic and not really given. Find the mistake !
A C5 X at nearly €60,000!
The most striking example is the C5 X Hypnos, a limited series (in the main photo) now available with the 225 hp plug-in hybrid engine at a price of €58,400. And to think that at its launch, equipped with the same engine, the C5 X did not exceed 50,000 €. So certainly, inflation has been there, and this Hypnos finish is “all inclusive” (glass sunroof, Hifi system, heated, massaging and ventilated front seats, acoustic glazing, specific mats). Nevertheless, that’s a lot for a vehicle from a brand that wants to be popular. It is all the more regrettable that this model is usually well placed against the competition. There, for an equivalent price, you can afford a BMW 3 Series plug-in hybrid of 204 hp (ample enough power) in M Sport finish. The endowment is less rich, the options more numerous, but the presentation is more than correct and the coat of arms alone ensures a better resale.
A 136 hp ë-C4 €4,000 more expensive than a 435 hp MG4!
But there is even worse. If the C5 X Hypnos is the most expensive of all the Citroëns in the catalog, the ë-C4 in its limited edition ë-Series costs a whopping €44,000, and count €700 more for the ë-C4 X with trunk. Here too, the equipment is very complete and the presentation worthy (two-tone bodywork, 18″ rims, dark-tinted rear windows and rear window). But who wants to spend so much on a model with outdated features equipped with the old electric motor combo? of 136 hp-electric battery with 50 kWh capacity when, for less, you can have much better. The most striking example is the new MG4 POWER, its direct rival which develops in this top version 435 hp ( more than an Audi RS3!), has a 64 kWh battery (therefore having a better range: 385 km against 360 km for the ë-C4) for the very reasonable sum of €40,490. all the same the arrival (finally) of the 156 hp electric motor and the 54 kWh battery (for the moment only on the ë-C4 X. Attention, the price is even higher: 45,700 €. Ouch!
