It’s no secret that the new Peugeot 3008, freshly renewed, will give birth in the coming months to an elongated variant called 5008, as is customary. A third generation which, like its predecessor, will adopt most of the interior and exterior stylistic codes of its little brother. But if the old 5008 skipped the plug-in hybrid mechanics of the 3008, the newcomer promises to use the same units.
An ultra-electrified 5008
Thus, it will be a question of E-5008, a 100% electric version made possible thanks to the new multi-energy platform STLA Medium. Logically, it will inherit the batteries and 73 and 98 kWh ensuring 525 to 700 km of autonomy on the E-3008. Longer than the latter by around 15 cm to reach around 4.70 m, it will slightly affect the promised WLTP mileage, as will the performance of the 210, 230 and 320 hp units that it will carry. Note that, for the first time, a 5008 will be eligible for all-wheel drive.
Future Space Competitor
In the same way, the arrival of a plug-in hybrid engine will be unprecedented on a 5008, the old model having skipped it due to the bulk of the two folding seats housed under the floor of its trunk. The characteristics of this 5008 PHEV have not yet been made official, but they should provide around 195 hp while ensuring 85 km of 100% electric driving. Finally, the entry level should be provided with a 48 V hybridization of 136 hp in order to remain below the €43,000 mark, according to our estimate, in 5 seats. The reveal of this third 5008 of the name should take place in early 2024, before a commercial launch planned before next summer.
