It’s an attempt to “return to nature” that goes wrong. Wouldn’t environmental activists be made to live in trees? In any case, Thomas Brail didn’t last long.
Climbed into a tree this Monday, with two of his colleagues, to protest against the A 69 motorway project to link Toulouse to Castres, the founder of the National Tree Surveillance Group (GNSA), had to be evacuated this Tuesday, September 12 .
In fact, the activist, also on hunger strike, felt unwell. “He had tingling in his arm, pressure in his chesttold one of the GNSA activists, nicknamed Jibon, to La Dépêche du Midi. He called me to tell me he wasn’t feeling well.”
He finally called the firefighters and found dry land around 9 a.m., thanks to a mechanical basket. Head to the Rangueil hospital center for a complete health check-up. This made it possible to detect a tear in the shoulder blade. At the end of the day, the latter finally returned to his tree.
An upcoming meeting with Carole Delga
The fact remains that this aerial interlude allowed the activist to obtain a meeting with Carole Delga, president of the Occitanie region. The aim being to discuss the subject of this highway, in the presence of representatives of the State, decision-makers of the project.
A victory, according to opponents of the project. This even though the State is obviously in favor of the highway (it is the decision-maker on the project) and the region only finances it to the tune of… 2%.
This attitude towards the motorway construction site is all the more interesting as the anti-A 69 activists are pleading for an alternative. The latter would consist of a development of the RN 126. However, for this, it is estimated that no less than 1,500 trees would have to be cut down!
At the same time, the construction of the A 69 motorway required the cutting of only 200 alignment trees. And double that will be replanted in the future. 20 structures dedicated to large wildlife and 56 to small wildlife will also be built. The highway route finally avoids four areas of major ecological issues.

To sum up
The environmental activist opposed to the A 69 motorway project linking Toulouse to Castres paused his action in a tree located opposite the Occitanie regional council after only a few hours. The fault is a tear in the shoulder blade.
