Last April, Jeep presented the rather light update of the Wrangler to mark its mid-career. The presentation mainly concerned the American market, with the European version planned a few months later. In mid-September, the manufacturer is launching the Wrangler of the Old Continent, with the same developments.
The 4×4 has a slightly redesigned grille, new body colors and 17 to 20-inch rims, and a new floating rear axle on the Rubicon version. On board, we also note the presence of a new 12.3-inch central screen including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and horizontal ventilation grilles instead of round vents. The equipment is also evolving with new equipment (curtain airbags, blind spot monitoring, active cruise control with braking function, pre-collision alert, fatigue detection, etc.
Only PHEV in France
The Wrangler will arrive in European dealerships in the first half of 2024. Unsurprisingly, it will only be offered with the 380 hp 4xe plug-in hybridization in France, thus allowing it to escape a more than substantial ecological penalty. This also fits with Jeep’s decision to become a 100% electric brand, despite the recent turnaround on the Avenger which has a 100 hp three-cylinder gasoline engine in addition to the electric variant initially planned. However, the prohibitive price of this Wrangler PHEV (more than €80,000 for the entry level before restyling) should confine it to only a few examples in France.
More surprisingly, the restyled Wrangler sees the return of a thermal engine in other European markets such as Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain. These countries will be entitled to a revised version of the 2.0 turbo four-cylinder which serves as the basis for the Wrangler 4xe. Compatible with Euro 6D-Final standards, it develops 272 hp and 400 Nm of torque, and is associated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Its price is not yet known, but one thing is certain: it should not be offered here… Unless there is a new change of heart from the American manufacturer!
