End of the rumors, Alfa Romeo has just announced its plans for the 2024 season. The Swiss structure prefers to maintain stability by extending its driver duo, Guanyu Zhou and Valtteri Bottas. A few weeks ago, the Chinese driver’s future was uncertain. According to several sources, Zhou had financial problems with his sponsors. It was then that several drivers on the grid and others from different categories began discussions. But everything was settled for the Shanghai native, the Swiss team kept its driver by putting aside the Théo Pourchaire option. After this announcement, Guanyu Zhou seems free after his last few weeks of stress.
“Extending with the team is always a pleasure, especially when you know what the future looks like. I am proud to be part of Alfa Romeo and I am grateful for their trust. I have worked extremely hard since day one, and there is incredible motivation to continue doing so every day. My relationship with Valtteri is really good, and we work closely together and with the team to lift everyone up. I am also particularly excited about the opportunity to finally race with my team in China, in front of my home crowd. It will be a great moment and I am proud to be able to share it with everyone who supported me.”
A thoughtful choice
For next year, Alfa Romeo Sauber did not want to take any risks and prefers to continue on this path. Sauber representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi is satisfied with this choice.
“The decision to continue the adventure with our pilot duo demonstrates the way in which we have invested in our project. In F1, nothing changes overnight, and we have made a conscious decision to prioritize stability and continue to build our team together, as we enter an important transition period. A future still secure for the flying Finn, Bottas welcomes the decision of the Hinwil team.
“I have the feeling that an exciting adventure awaits us, so I am happy and grateful to be able to look towards 2024 knowing the prospects of the team. There is a good atmosphere in our team, I get along well with Zhou and we push each other to progress. An impressive amount of work is being done behind the scenes, in Hinwil and elsewhere; now that the line-up is set for next year, we can fully concentrate on our progress. Every step The forward we are making is a step forward for this year and next, so we are motivated to give our all every time we are at the circuit or at the factory.”
For Théo Pourchaire, we must wait before hoping for a seat as a starter in Formula 1.
“Over the years, the team has become a family for me,” said the Frenchman. Therefore, I am really happy and grateful to continue my adventure with Alfa Romeo and the Sauber Academy. The support I have received of the entire team is fantastic, and I am proud to be able to contribute to the development of the entire team. I have a lot to bring to this exceptional collective, and I am excited about the future.”
