German Chancellor Olaf Scholz wants to accelerate the deployment of charging stations. To do this, he plans to force gas stations to provide charging points for electric cars.
Germany has not hidden its reluctance to go all-electric in recent months. These result in a defense of the thermal engine via synthetic fuels. But the country is increasingly isolated on the subject, and the government also wants to accelerate electrification.
At the IAA in Munich, Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a big announcement regarding charging stations. With a blindfold over one eye due to an accident, he thus warned of a future obligation: “Germany will be the first country in Europe to pass a law requiring operators of 80% of all gas stations to offer fast charging options of at least 150 kWh for electric cars. »
He explained that the objective was to further reduce the famous anxiety of breakdown. But Scholz also suffered a demonstration by environmental activists. They screamed ” the party is over “ et “our future is being destroyed” while riding on cars.
Scholz later criticized these protests, explaining that the industry was already working toward progress. “The demonstrations are part of the public and democratic debate, but it is a bit anachronistic. When you walk through these stands and see the new technologies so that mobility produces less or no emissions in the future, it’s a bit irritating. »
