Zapping Auto Moto Ford Bronco 2023 test: bench for the Bronco
In recent years, manufacturers have been improving their multimedia systems and no longer hesitate to call on specialists to enhance them over time. This is the case of Volvo, which uses the Android Automotive system provided by Google, like Renault since the marketing of the Mégane E-Tech or BMW very soon. Among the possibilities offered by this multimedia universe close to a smartphone, the integration of third-party applications.
This is the case, for example, of the community navigation service Waze, integrated for several months into the vehicles of the aforementioned brands, or of Spotify, the famous music streaming service. Volvo continues its momentum by specifying that the video streaming services Prime from Amazon and YouTube will be available from September 18. The applications will be pre-installed and will be gradually deployed via an OTA (over-the-air) update, market by market.
Only when stationary
Volvo specifies that the integration of Prime Video will be done by downloading from Google Play, the applications market, while YouTube will be pre-installed as part of an automatic OTA update. Both apps will be available in Google-equipped Volvos worldwide, excluding China, South Korea and Vietnam. Of course, application availability and data usage depend on markets.
For obvious safety reasons, Volvo specifies that access to video streaming can only be done when stationary, without saying whether the vehicle must be put in parking position only or if the engine must be turned off. This can help pass the time at the charging station when your electric vehicle is plugged in, or “while waiting for a loved one” depending on the brand.
