The electric car from the telephony giant, Xiaomi, could arrive as early as this year. This will be called Modena and is currently being tested under thick camouflage.
We have known for several months that Xiaomi is preparing to take the plunge towards electric cars. The manufacturer of smartphones and multimedia products will soon present its model.
This will surprisingly be called Modena and we could discover it when Xiaomi presents its new smartphone. This is the site CarNewsChina who says so, and the most likely date seems to be early November.
We know that it will be a four-door sedan with a Coupé shape. The Chinese manufacturer produces around 50 prototypes per week before final production approval. This should take place before the end of the year, and it is the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology which will give it.
Still according to the site, Xiaomi has already recruited around a hundred people for pre-production models. Recruitment is apparently very strict, with the firm having refused former employees of Mercedes and Tesla.
The electric sedan will have a 101 kWh battery in its long-range version. This should allow it to exceed 700 kilometers on a charge. In China, the model will start at under 30,000 euros, and should be in the range of a Tesla Model 3 in France.
