Turkey would like to become the next country to welcome Tesla and one of its Gigafactories. President Erdogan met with Musk and tried to convince him to bring his electric cars to the country.
This weekend, Elon Musk met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in New York. On the agenda of discussions between the two men, the possibility of seeing Tesla set up a Gigafactory in Turkey.
It was the Turkish presidency which revealed this proposal made to Musk in a press release. “President Erdogan called on Tesla to establish its seventh factory in Turkey”, we can read. Turkey is already a country very involved in the automobile industry, with many factories of traditional manufacturers, for example Renault.
Normally, the next Tesla Gigafactory to open outside the United States will be in Monterrey, Mexico. We also know that Elon Musk hopes to open one in India in the future. These will be in addition to the Gigafactory Shanghai and the factory in Berlin.
France, which had already almost obtained its factory before Tesla established itself in Germany, is still insisting on Musk to have its Gigafactory. Emmanuel Macron sought to convince Elon Musk during a meeting in June, without success for the moment.
