Audi is tweaking the Q4 e-tron, with more powerful engines and improved range. But there is no question of lowering the entry price like the competition to get the bonus.
It’s not a restyling yet, but a good update. The Q4 e-tron, available in classic silhouette or Sportback coupe, does not evolve in terms of style, it benefits from various technical and technological improvements. Proof that the electric car is constantly evolving!
On all models, there is now a permanent magnet synchronous machine on the rear axle. Powers are increasing. The 45 e-tron version is now available in propulsion and quattro, with in both cases a power of 210 kW, or 286 hp. The top of the range is the 55 e-tron quattro with 250 kW, or 340 hp.
The entire range is equipped with a battery with a useful capacity of 77 kWh. Ranges are improving, the Q4 Sportback 45 e-tron reaches a range of up to 562 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle.
Audi says “optimized cell chemistry has improved DC charging power.” The quattro models now reach a maximum DC charging power of 175 kW, while the rear-wheel drive models clock in at 135 kW.
The pre-conditioning system saves recharge time. It activates with the recharge scheduler. The vehicle also gains a post-conditioning system. The vehicle cools the battery if it exceeds a fixed temperature threshold after driving or charging.
The brand’s engineers have also revised the suspension and steering settings. The latter is thus more direct. The brand promises better balance “for increased comfort, more driving pleasure and stability”.
On the equipment side, the Q4 e-tron gains assisted lane change, which therefore manages overtaking beyond 90 km/h. As an option, Audi will also offer a new “characteristic” exterior sound at low speeds.
The new range will go on sale from September 26, with a base price of €53,000. Audi therefore refuses to respond to its main competitors who have offered new entry-level versions of their electric compact SUV in order to benefit from the bonus. This is particularly the case of the BMW iX1 and obviously the Tesla Model Y.
On the contrary, Audi is moving the Q4 upmarket with enhanced equipment; there is now the MMI Navigation pack, the electric tailgate and the heated front seats as standard.
