Naming electric cars, no, but what is this mess?

For example, for the 3 Series, the internal combustion vehicles are expected to be named 320 and 330, while their electric counterparts will likely be called i330, i340 and i350. The same nomenclature would be applied to each segment at BMW. Another example with the X3: it will be X330 in thermal or iX330 in electric.

If the large Series 3 or Series 5 families will therefore be retained, the “ i » will now be exclusive to electric vehicles. BMW is struggling to find the right formula to name its vehicles. Under the Neue Klasse era, the brand will try to simplify the naming of its models by merging letters and numbers. This is a subject that BMW has been dragging out for several years. At the start of 2023, the German company had already promised to review its names to clarify the offer to consumers.
