Zapping Auto Moto Restyled Peugeot 2008 vs Renault Captur: first static confrontation!
After only two years of operation, the Audi Q4 e-tron receives a relatively important technical update, which puts it back in the race against its competitors. The ringed SUV sees its power increase thanks to a new rear engine, while the standard equipment evolves and the autonomy increases.
The improvements affect the Q4 e-tron and the Q4 e-tron Sportback “SUV coupe” variant equally. The aesthetics do not change, and it is therefore mainly at the level of the technical sheet that the changes are visible. From now on, the electric SUV only has a 77 kWh net battery (82 kWh gross), while a “small” 52 kWh battery was also offered at entry level until now. The cell chemistry has been revised to improve recharge, with a change from 10 to 80% in 28 min. Audi specifies that the quattro models have a charging power of 175 kW in direct current while the rear-wheel drive Q4 e-tron remains at 135 kW.
In addition, a new permanent magnet synchronous motor is responsible for driving the rear axle for all variants. With a power of 286 hp on the Q4 45 e-tron (i.e. 21 hp more than before), it reaches 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. Presumably shared with the Volkswagen ID.7, the unit also improves autonomy thanks to better efficiency and optimized thermal management. The range increases to 562 km for the Sportback body in the best case, compared to 481 km before.
At the top of the range, the Audi Q4 55 e-tron quattro and Q4 Sportback 55 e-tron quattro now develop 340 hp, compared to 299 hp for the former Q4 50 e-tron quattro. They reach the 100 km/h mark in 5.4 seconds. On the other hand, the maximum speed is now limited to 180 km/h for all models. The electric SUV also benefits from the upgrade to review its suspensions (standard, sport lowered by 15 mm or controlled) with new settings, as well as its steering, intended to be more direct.
More standard equipment
Audi claims that the equipment has been revised. The MMI Navigation pack is automatically included, as is the electric tailgate or the heated front seats. The optional adaptive cruise control offers a new assisted lane change function above 90 km/h, with a simple action of the indicator. The route planner has been improved to favor the most powerful charging stations during certain journeys, and adapt battery preconditioning. Additionally, a post-conditioning system cools the battery pack after high-power charging or a long drive to keep it healthy.
Despite these changes, Audi is not being tempted by inflation, the SUV retaining its price of €53,000 minimum. On the other hand, to meet demand, the German production site in Zwickau will be supplemented by a second line in Brussels from the end of the year.
