Driving schools: the end of diesel soon?

The ECF driving schools will ban diesel by next year, before switching to all-electric in the coming years.

There will be change for the future apprentice drivers in the coming months. Indeed, while the automotive sector is undergoing rapid change, driving schools will have to follow suit and develop their fleets. This is precisely the case with the chain ECF, which is about to start a big turning point, by banning diesel engines. Still particularly favored by driving schools, this fuel should therefore gradually disappear, while the group will now only use gasoline vehicles, still supplied by Renault, its partner for many years already. And the transition will go quickly, since the entire fleet will be changed next year! A significant development, while 96% of the 2,081 vehicles are currently gasoline.

An electric fleet

But this transformation is only the first step of a vast plan, since ultimately thedriving school wish to make the thermal vehicles, in order to only offer a fleet of electric cars. The precise deadline is not yet known, but it should be around 2025 or 2026. The problem is that who says electric cars obviously means automatic transmission mandatory. As the CEO of ECF, Bruno Garancher, reminds us “ a European directive imposes a “bridge” of 7 hours of training to switch from driving on an automatic gearbox to driving on a manual gearbox ».

Except that this type of license represented only a small part of the licenses taken last year, mainly by young people turning mainly to the occasion, and therefore manual boxes, less expensive. The group therefore hopes for a change of directive in the coming years.
