Mazda seems to have listened to the criticism of its “new” Mazda 2 Hybrid, which is none other than a Toyota Yaris hybrid whose logo was quickly replaced. Presented at the end of 2021 and marketed in spring 2022, the “2” is already going through the restyling process in order to offer itself a distinct personality, and in line with Mazda design.
A real personality
The city car thus receives a redesigned grille in the spirit of the other Mazda 2, thermal and still in the catalog. The shield is also revised with a redesigned central air intake and new inserts near the fog lights. The proportions do not change, but the whole thing is clearly different from the Yaris. At the rear, the black strip between the lights is replaced by a new body-colored part, which again gives a different look to the hybrid city car.
On board, the changes are less obvious. The Japanese is equipped with a new 9 or 10.5 inch multimedia system depending on the finish, as well as analog or digital meters on a 12.3 inch panel depending on the equipment. The new slab requires reviewing the layout of the dashboard with the disappearance of the small storage space under the central air vents, like the Yaris updated in May.
We expected to see the new 130 hp hybrid engine recently inaugurated by the Yaris, but the restyled Mazda 2 Hybrid remains faithful to the old 116 hp hybridization, made up of a three-cylinder 1.5 gasoline engine of 92 hp and with a 59 kW electric motor. This is still offered on the Yaris twin. Thus equipped, the Mazda 2 Hybrid goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds and boasts a maximum speed of 175 km/h. Fuel consumption ranges between 3.8 and 4.3 l/100 km in the WLTP combined cycle, while CO2 emissions are 87 to 97 g/km depending on wheel size and finish.
Five finishes in the catalog
The range is also evolving, and is made up of five finishing levels: Prime-line, Centre-line and Exclusive-line as well as Homura and Homura Plus. The entry level already has numerous equipment including keyless entry or Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The Exclusive-line finish also has 16-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking assistance, blind spot monitoring and active recognition of moving obstacles when reversing. The Homura version adds LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, tinted windows, half-leather, half-vinyl seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and LED interior ambient lighting. Finally, the Homura Plus finish receives a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an oversized 10.5-inch infotainment screen, a head-up display and a navigation system, or even a panoramic glass roof and mirrors. of courtesy.
For the moment, Mazda does not provide details on the prices of this updated Mazda 2 Hybrid. Currently, the non-restyled model is priced from €25,250.
