Nice program for the 2023 edition of the Salon de Lyon. It’s full of new products, with many electrified models presented in French previews. Overview with this photo tour. The salon is open until Monday October 2.
Concepts have made the trip to Lyon, including the A290 B (pronounced Beta). This prototype foreshadows the small 100% electric sports car that the brand will launch in 2024. You have recognized its basis: it is the new R5. The Alpine will stand out with its largely new bodywork, to have a muscular look. However, the production version will be wiser than this eye-catching concept. On this one, Alpine has placed the driver squarely in the center! The manufacturer has said nothing about the power of the engine.

Mission successful for BYD, whose stand arouses real curiosity among visitors to the Lyon show. The brand has come with its next big novelty, the Seal sedan, rival of the Tesla Model 3. A little larger, at 4.80 meters, it is offered in a 313 hp rear-wheel drive version or 530 hp four-wheel drive version. The Propulsion version announces 570 km of autonomy in the WLTP mixed cycle and is priced at €46,990, so it benefits from the bonus.

Do you like the electric 500 but it’s too impractical? Here is its family version, with 5 doors, the 600th. This new model, presented for its French premiere, is an urban SUV, technical cousin of the Jeep Avenger. Advantage therefore: it is the same base, with more affordable prices. The 600e is also an interesting offer on the market, with a well-equipped RED version which announces 400 km of autonomy for €35,900 without bonus. All with the nice design of the 500.

In clear view on the Ford stand, the new Explorer, a 100% electric compact SUV. This takes up the technical underside of the Volkswagen ID.4, but the brand with the blue oval has still not detailed the technical sheet of the vehicle, the launch of which has also been postponed by a few months, to spring 2024. Suffice to say that the Lyon public is entitled to a good preview, being able to at least get on board to discover the large 15-inch vertical screen.

Big program for Honda in Lyon, with the exhibition of its three new electrified SUVs: there is the new ZR-V, a compact hybrid crossover, the new generation of the CR-V, which now allows the choice between classic hybrid or rechargeable, and this e-Ny1, a 100% electric equivalent to the HR-V. It has a 204 hp engine, and announces a range of 412 km. A little fair, especially in relation to a hefty price, €47,700. Honda, however, makes an offer to get the bonus and highlights the fact that the equipment is extremely complete, it is an all-inclusive vehicle, right down to the metallic paint.

The new flagship of the Kia range imposing on the stand. The EV9 is a large electric SUV, 5.01 meters long, with 7 seats as standard. It offers a 6-seater configuration with two independent and swivel armchairs in the center. The model is available with 204 hp rear-wheel drive and 385 hp four-wheel drive. Both configurations have a 99.8 kWh battery. Orders are open, with an entry price of €73,000.

Lexus is moving downmarket with the LBX, an urban SUV, designed especially for Europe. Derived from the Toyota Yaris Cross, the model is equipped with a simple hybrid engine of 136 hp. A four-wheel drive version is on the menu. The model is a concentrate of Lexus design, with developments, for example a shortened grille to make room for a junction between the headlights. The vehicle will be in dealerships in early 2024.

Mini Cooper SE
Nice surprise to find in Lyon the new electric Mini, just presented in Munich and which will not arrive in dealerships before May 2024. It is a brand new generation, only electric and which will initially be produced in China. Two technical configurations are in the catalog, with 184 or 218 hp, and ranges of 305 or 402 km. The good news is that prices are stable while autonomy increases, the old one capping at 234 km.

Peugeot 208 restyled
Unfortunately, no new e-3008 on the stand. It’s obviously too early. Peugeot prefers to highlight the refresh of the electric 208, which will be in dealerships in November. The e-208 changes its face, receiving three large light claws on each side of the grille. The restyling marks the arrival of the new version with 156 hp and a 51 kWh battery. Thanks to this new package, the maximum autonomy in the WLTP mixed cycle takes a leap forward, going from 362 to 410 km.

He is one of the big stars of the Salon de Lyon. A few weeks after its debut in Munich, the Scénic has a French preview in the capital of Gaul. For those who missed an episode, the new generation of the Scénic is now a 100% electric SUV. The model shares its base with the Mégane, but it benefits from its larger size to accommodate a large 87 kWh battery. With it, the WLTP mixed autonomy is promised at least 620 km. It is therefore the first electric family Renault that can go far on one charge. The Scénic will be in dealerships in early 2024.

Renault came in force to Lyon. Next to the Scénic, another notable preview: the Rafale. It is a large SUV coupe, based on the Austral, but with a very distinct look, since the Rafale is entitled to Renault’s new angular look, initiated by Gilles Vidal. The Rafale is impressive for a Losange model, which is thus trying its luck again at the top of the range. The Rafale is launched with a 200 hp simple hybrid unit. A 300 hp four-wheel drive plug-in hybrid is announced.

Construction of the new Smart range continues. After SUV #1, the brand, now a joint venture between Mercedes and Geely, is unveiling a preview of #3 in Lyon, another SUV, but in the shape of a coupe. The vehicle is even larger than #1, with a length of 4.40 meters! On a technical level, the power is 200 kW and rises to 315 kW in the Brabus version. Thanks to its more aero silhouette, the #3 promises a better range than the #1, up to 455 km. The model will be in dealerships during the first quarter of 2024.

The Lyon Motor Show is an opportunity for Subaru to finally launch the Solterra in France. This is its first electric model. It is closely derived from the Toyota bZ4X. It stands out with a revised front face. As a good Subaru, the Solterra is only offered in four-wheel drive version, with two motors for a power of 160 kW. The WLTP mixed autonomy increases up to 465 km with the entry-level Comfort version, already very well equipped, and priced at €59,990.

Tesla Model 3
Another star of the show that attracts the crowd: the Tesla Model 3 in its restyled version, called Highland. It can be recognized by its unique face, with now thin headlights. By refining the aerodynamics and changing the tire fitment, the Propulsion version now boasts 510 km of autonomy. Another notable development: the dashboard has been revised. The starting price has increased a little, to €42,990, but this remains a great price/performance ratio on the electric market.

Among the major French premieres at the show, there is the second generation of the C-HR, which will arrive in dealerships at the very beginning of 2024. Toyota also took advantage of the show to unveil the price list, which starts at €34,900 with the 140 hp simple hybrid engine. Then there is a simple hybrid of 200 hp, available in four-wheel drive, and the big news, a plug-in hybrid variant of 225 hp. The C-HR retains another ingredient that made it successful: an original look, reinforced here by a daring two-tone silhouette.

Expected in dealerships at the end of the year, the ID.7 is making its French debut in Lyon. This large 4.96 meter sedan indirectly replaces the non-renewed Passat sedan. It is 100% electric, with a new 210 kW unit, or 286 hp. With a 77 kWh battery (net capacity), the range is 620 km. The order books have been opened, with a high base price: €62,650. But at this price, the equipment is generous.

If the Passat sedan is replaced by the ID.7, there is indeed a new generation of the Passat, only an estate car, and which retains the more traditional engines. The car gives pride of place to the plug-in hybrid, with two versions of 204 and 272 hp. The net capacity of the battery soars, from 10.6 to 19.7 kWh. Volkswagen promises an electric range of more than 100 km! Another number on the rise: length. With 14 cm more, the Passat SW becomes very large, at 4.92 m.
