Castex - Veran: curfew or no curfew to contain Covid-19?

A return to curfew does not seem to be the measure favored by the government. This measure would have strong consequences on car, 2-wheeler traffic, etc.

How to stem the tide? This Monday, a Council of Ministers must approve the implementation of the vaccination pass and examine other avenues aimed at curbing the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. Prime Minister Jean Castex and Minister of Health Olivier Véran will present the measures decided by the executive during a press conference, to be held at the Elysée Palace at 7 p.m..

Among the proposed solutions are a return to the curfew already implemented in France at the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. Traffic was then prohibited in the absence of a valid reason for travel, as evidenced by the famous certificate of exit. According to information from our colleagues at France Info, this track is not favored by the government. “We are going to take less strong but more lasting measures”, decrypts a minister questioned by the public audiovisual service.

=> Covid-19: towards new traffic restrictions?

The return to wearing a mask in outdoor areas or a relaxation of isolation measures concerning contact cases are under study.

In recent days, rumors have included a return of the curfew on New Year’s Eve, traditionally conducive to family or friendly gatherings. If France Info is to be believed, the government therefore does not intend to ban the circulation of cars, 2-wheelers, bicycles or pedestrians on the occasion of the New Year.
