Before the end of the year, Matter will be the label that will allow all connected devices to communicate with one voice with home automation applications and voice assistants.
On matter connected accessories, whether light bulbs, refrigerators, home surveillance camera or other thermostats connected, cohabitation is not always easy with apps dedicated to home automation at Amazon, Apple, Google, or even Samsung. Everyone goes their own way and we cannot say that everything is done in concert. To solve the problem, here is Matter ! This standard is the result of the alliance between the manufacturers of connected equipment (Philips, Legrand, Ikea, Huawei, etc.) and the tenors offering home automation management platforms, such as Amazon, Google or Apple. For this project, originally called CHIP, all came together under the banner of the Zigbee Alliance. This partnership changes for the occasion of name to rename itself Connectivity Standards Alliance.
Unlock the brakes on home automation with a switchboard
Based on an approach open source, Matter makes it possible to adopt a common standard at the same time to simplify the pairing, the management and the security of the various connected devices of the house. It will thus be very easy and possible to pilot any Matter certified device with the voice assistants from Google, Amazon, Apple and Samsung, for example.
This Matter label, formalized today, should be rolled out during the last quarter of this year. Compatible devices will display a Matter logo. And those brands that are already on the market should mostly receive updates to make them compatible with the Matter standard. Since this announcement, the press releases have been breaking down on compliance with this standard by the partner brands. Thus, Philips announces that the update of its Hue bridge will be applied in the wake of the launch of Matter. As soon as manufacturers take care to integrate this standard into their products, the Automation should take a leap forward.
