The final project for a limited traffic zone (ZTL) in Lyon is finally known. The latter was presented this Thursday morning on BFM Lyon. This at the end of a consultation, after an initial project presented last March, detailing the main orientations of this new restriction zone.
In detail, the latter is enlarged. Thus, the bottom of the slopes of Croix-Rousse is integrated into it. An area that has become pedestrian since Wednesday. On the other hand, several areas located to the east of the ZTL, around Place des Cordeliers in particular, are excluded from this zone. This is perhaps explained by the presence of four parking lots.
We are moving forward in parallel on the future Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL) of the peninsula, for the benefit of residents and visitors, from summer 2025.

New streets will therefore become pedestrianized. Namely rue de la République. Part of rue Mercière and part of rue Confort are also affected. On the rue de Grenette side (crossing Place des Cordeliers), the latter will be a two-way street. But it will be reserved exclusively for bus lines, not even delivery trucks.
Give more space to pedestrians
A decision which will improve regularity, assures Fabien Bagnon, vice-president of the Lyon metropolis in charge of Mobility for BFM Lyon. It will also calm down the Presqu’Île and give more space to pedestrians. An important issue, again according to Fabien Bagnon:
“The real challenge is to give much more space to pedestrians. We will have fifteen additional streets which will be pedestrianized. Currently, we are at 30.” “We arrive at a project that achieves consensus.” “The accessibility of the Presqu’Île will be generally improved.”
Remember that access to this ZTL, scheduled for June 1, 2025, will be reserved only for local residents, traders, delivery people, craftsmen, as well as emergency vehicles. Transit traffic will therefore no longer be authorized there. The latter will undoubtedly not fail to refer to the other axes, which is not likely to make life easier for motorists.
