Faced with the price war, the Chinese manufacturer Hiphi is offering a more affordable version of its sedan. But the HiPhi Z City must also give up certain features.
The Hiphi Z remains one of the most expensive electric sedans on the Chinese market. Not necessarily the ideal positioning in these times of price wars on the market. Rather than lowering its price, Hiphi is adding a new, more affordable version, but also with less rich content.
It starts with the battery, which goes down from 120 kWh to a more reasonable 90 kWh, still in NMC chemistry. Its reduced range from 705 to 535 km earned it the name City. Not really a city car, since the engine performance is unchanged. The Z remains a 4-wheel drive car with 2 motors of 494 kW / 672 hp and 820 Nm…
In addition to this less imposing battery, the Hiphi Z City also abandons its lighting effects. Goodbye to front and rear lights capable of displaying pictograms or to side light strips on the doors. A little less “wow” effect, but we keep the motorized doors, the active aerodynamic components, the Lidar on the roof, the large 22-inch wheels with their add-on spilling over the tires, the screen 15.5 inch mobile or Las Vegas-style ambient lighting indoors.
This new version will be offered from 500,000 RMB (66,000 euros). That’s 110,000 RMB less (€14,500) than the standard model. It is not yet known whether this variant will be offered in Europe. It would bring the prices of the Chinese sedan below the 100,000 euro mark.
