How it works ?
Concretely, all vehicles whose weight exceeds the 1 800 kilos will be subject to this new penalty by weight, up to € 10 per additional kilo. Of course, this tax will be cumulative with the others, and in particular the ecological penalty, which will also increase in 2022. Like the latter, the weight penalty could also see its scale evolve, with a ceiling modeled on the related tax. to CO2. It will therefore be € 40,000 next year, before rising to 50,000 in 2023. New vehicles but also imported vehicles will be affected, with nevertheless a reduction of 10% per year for cars over six months old.
What exemptions?
However, there will be some exceptions, especially for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, which will not be affected by this weight penalty, as will hydrogen models and equipped for people with reduced mobility. Exemptions are also provided for large families, with a reduction of 200 kilos per child from the 3rd dependent. Finally, professionals will only be taxed from 2.2 tonnes if the vehicle has at least eight seats.
