New twist for the contested A 69 motorway project to link Toulouse to Castres. Tree clearing has been suspended since Tuesday, October 10 in the afternoon, until Friday, October 13.
The aim is to calm things down before a meeting to discuss the future of this project, between the opponents and the initiators of the project. Please note that the entire project is not suspended.
The Occitanie prefecture and the Tarn prefecture will thus receive the different project stakeholders separately. This will concern local elected officials and representatives of associations. “concerned by the project”. Enough to allow us to discuss the felling of trees or alternative solutions, no doubt.
A decision taken under duress
This decision was taken following a hunger and thirst strike started by three environmental activists, including Thomas Brail, the most publicized of them. The latter were particularly opposed to the necessary felling of trees for the completion of this A 69 motorway project.
An action now suspended, at least until Friday. The activists agreed to eat again after concerns about their health. A rally of their supporters was also planned for 2 p.m. yesterday.
Other gatherings of this kind cannot be ruled out. A new environmental mobilization is planned for October 21 and 22. This even though the government recalled, through Christophe Béchu, Minister of Ecological Transition, that“we must assume that we have road projects” on Franceinfo. To be continued…
