A few weeks ago, Peugeot finally lifted the veil on the 3rd generation of its 308, completely renewed with a style operating a real break with the previous generation, as well as all new engines. A new version that has obviously not failed to make talk about it, because of its completely new lines, but also because the compact is still so popular with the general public, while it still appears in the top 10 models. the most sold in France, despite the eight years on the clock of the previous version. The one that was undoubtedly the most anticipated novelty of the year was finally unveiled, thus retaining its compact silhouette, with dimensions varying little compared to the previous version. But that’s not all, because it is rumored that a crossover version would also be considered, in order to compete with the future Renault Megane, which will also be elevated for its new generation.
On the other hand, and it is quite logical, no convertible version would be planned, while this type of bodywork tends to disappear over the years, its representatives being increasingly rare. However, this did not prevent the Hungarian designer X-Tomi from imagining what this variation could have looked like. And the least we can say is that the result is quite successful and goes well with this new Peugeot 308 ! It then obviously loses its roof, which should probably take the form of a canvas top, while adopting a more dynamic silhouette. And for good reason, the compact is found amputated of two doors, while the windshield seems slightly more inclined than on the standard version. The front end displaying the famous luminous “fangs” is renewed, as is the very pretty green color, unheard of on this new generation. The rear has not been imagined by the artist, but we suspect that the changes should be quite minimal, the lights and the shield remaining identical.
A large range
To imagine this more dynamic version, X-Tomi relied on the Peugeot 308 plug-in hybrid, as the cable in the photo suggests. And for good reason, the compact is now electrified, and comes in two versions, developing 180 and 225 horsepower, then delivered as standard with the EAT8 automatic transmission. But several thermal versions will also be offered, with the 1.2-liter PureTech petrol available in 110 and 130 horsepower, as well as the 1.5-liter BlueHDi, developing only 130 equines. Later, it will be the turn of the SW station wagon version to enter the catalog, with the same engines, while an electric variant would also be planned, as well as a sportier version, bearing the Peugeot Sport Engineered badge. . Assembled at the Mulhouse plant, the all-new Peugeot 308 will begin marketing at the start of the next school year, while orders will open this summer. The prices have not yet been announced, but they should probably be around € 25,000.
