Each year, around 157,000 tonnes of toys are placed on the market, 90% are imported and around 100,000 tonnes are thrown away (excluding electric and electronic toys), according to Ademe which states that “ 4% of toys are reused while 50% of toys are technically reusable when families want to part with them “. Promote the reuse and repair of toys
This sector aims in particular to develop the reuse and repair of toys, in particular in conjunction with operators of the social and solidarity economy (ESS). In this area, initiatives are multiplying, such as that of AbracadaBric who claims that “ our purchasing behavior must change, and it is a double responsibility: that of the person who sells, but also ours, the buyer, we have the power to change things! » Three tonnes of toys per year escaped the trash and, after being checked and cleaned, were resold online or in the store in Villefranche-sur-Saône.
Ecological, economic and social virtues
The benefit of the reconditioned toy, in addition to its ecological virtue, is obviously economic since it is resold for up to 50% less than the new price. The ambition of most players in the sector is also to have a social impact, such as AbracadaBric which currently employs around fifteen employees on fixed-term employment contracts, or Yoti, whose games and toys are reconditioned by inmates in their reintegration process. In the same spirit, Let’s play Solidarity againa network of structures specializing in the reuse of games and toys through socio-professional inclusion was even created and enabled the collection of 144 tonnes of games, toys and books through its 26 points of sale in France.
