Real privilege to be able to circulate, the gray card is often at the heart of controversy. This year, it’s the bikers who are angry …
When buying a vehicle, whether new or used, the gray card is mandatory and must be completed within 30 days of purchase. Subject to many changes over the years, its price continues to fluctuate to the dismay of motorists. This is all the more the case for bikers, who are no longer entitled to the rebate on the amount of the regional tax since the beginning of 2021.
A bygone advantage
Each year, many changes come into effect concerning the request and the creation of gray cards. While some motorists sometimes become advantaged, others just lose the assets they had enjoyed for several years. In 2021, this is the case for all bikers who own a motorcycle over ten years old …
Before January 1, 2021, motorcycles ten years of age or older could benefit from a 50% reduction on the total amount of the regional tax. The price of a gray card depending on various taxes, including the regional one, the bikers concerned therefore paid their precious sesame much less. In fact, for motorcycles over ten years old, the price of the fiscal horse was then halved.
With its tangle of letters and numbers, a gray card (also called a registration certificate) can be difficult to read, especially for novices. Namely that this little piece of paper lists all the technical characteristics of a vehicle, whether it is a car or a motorcycle. First of all, it is compulsory to indicate the fiscal power on the registration document. Along with other information such as the owner’s address, the energy of the engine or the date of entry into service, this data will make it possible to calculate the final price of your vehicle registration document.
On the other hand, it is also compulsory to mention the VIN number on the registration certificate. Present in at least two places on your vehicle (often on the chassis, in the door or at the bottom of the windshield), the VIN number corresponds to the serial number and allows each vehicle to be clearly identified. It consists of 17 characters and is essential when it comes to verifying the authenticity of a vehicle or insuring it.
The ecological penalty, eternal unloved
If many changes concerning the gray card have emerged recently, the most unwelcome is still the ecological penalty. Indeed, since 2020, large vehicles consuming too much CO2 have been heavily penalized. First set at 138g / km, this year the penalty was set at 133g / km. At the same time, the maximum ceiling of the ecological penalty has therefore been increased to € 30,000, depending on the number of grams emitted and the car model …
For now, bikers can take their breath away, they are not yet affected by this new rule which divides a lot.
